Lil Wayne vs. Drake
With everything going on in the world, it's only customary to see hypothetical situations pop-up in the message boards. One of those many things has been to see people comparing greats, those would include Lil Wayne and Drake. The story behind it is simple enough to understand: the Toronto boy on the rise gets recruited by the Louisiana star to join one of the biggest rap groups in the world at the time. Both of them forged their own paths in the history of Hip-Hop, breaking ground and taking names along the way. It's the story of Drizzy Drake and Lil Tunechi.
So let's discuss the hypothetical.
Imagine the world where these two weren't brothers. It's pretty easy to see that they're very close to one another. Drake has a tattoo of Wayne. Wayne regretted not having Drake on Tha Carter V due to clearance issues. It's one of the best friendships in Hip-Hop since Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. So imagine none of that was possible. To do that, one would have to set the perfect scenario.
Thankfully for us, Lil Wayne already gave us that.
In his memoir, Gone 'Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island, Lil Wayne said that Drake slept a girl that he had been seeing steadily. Drizzy told Weezy that this had happened before they got together, years before. Wayne was upset because the girl had never told him about it before.
From there, we can imagine that, in this hypothetical scenario, that Lil Wayne came out with a vengeance. Weezy, while still having his issues with Birdman and Cash Money, would not be able to release a full album. However, mixtape shots could happen on other projects. How long these would last without Drake responding is unsure. If cooler heads did not prevail, the boy from the 6 would respond on either More Life or Scorpion. I highly doubt that the beef would go one further than that. They would probably be subliminal shots at most.
Who would come out of this hypothetical battle over a girl is hard to say. Lil Wayne is arguably one of the top ten rappers at all time. Drake is one of the biggest hit makers the world has ever seen. It would be one of the battles for the ages. By far, it would be the most personal battles Hip-Hop has seen since The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur. My honest belief is that the stark difference between Hip-Hop and Pop would see Wayne winning the Hip-Hop heads and Drake the general populace.
I think that it would be horrible to see anything happen that would break up this friendship. They are still the best rappers and one of the best duos in the world. I wish they would just put out an album together.
